On Thursday, the makers of Vemal's upcoming film, Sir, announced that the film has cleared censorship formalities with a U/A certificate. Helmed by Bose Venkat, the film is gearing up to hit theatres on October 18.

The trailer, which was released two weeks ago, showed Vemal as Ma Po Sivagnanam, a teacher who has newly moved to a village to teach the students there. However, the traditional elders in the village hatch a sinister plan to ensure nobody is educated, as that would empower the oppressed. How Vemal's Sir ensures that the village is educated forms the crux of the film. This is the second film in which Vemal plays a teacher, with the first one being the National Award-winning Vaagai Sooda Vaa.

Apart from Vemal, Sir also stars Chaya Devi Kannan, Siraj S, Saravanan, Rama, and Jayabalan in prominent roles. The film was earlier titled Ma Po Si. On the technical team, Sir has music by Siddhu Kumar, cinematography by Iniyan J Harish, and editing by Sreejith Sarang.

The film is produced by Siraj S and Nilofer Siraj under their production banner SSS Pictures. Sir is presented by Vetrimaaran under his Grass Root Film Company.
