Kamal Haasan's cult classic film Gunaa is getting a re-release on Friday November 29. Directed by Santhana Bharathi and co-written by Sab John, the 1991 film also stars Rekha and newcomer Roshini in her only screen appearance.

The film was initially planned for a re-release in June this year, but legal issues delayed the film's return to theatres. Now that the hurdles have lifted, Gunaa is set to be screened in several theatres in Tamil Nadu.

The story of Gunaa revolves around Kamal Haasan who stars as a psychiatric patient who kidnaps a heiress (Roshini) to make her fall in love with him as he believes that she is goddess Abhirami reborn. Although the film had an average run at the box office during its time of release, the film gained a cult status due to its theme, performances and memorable tunes by Ilaiyaraaja which includes the 'Kanmani Anbodu' song that continues to echo as an evergreen earworm among thousands of older and newer audiences.

It is to be noted that the film had a renewed interest after the release of the Malayalam hit Manjummel Boys earlier this year which featured the 'Kanmani Anbodu' track in its story. The film received much praise, following which tourism to Kodaikanal received an additional boost as tourists flocked to catch a view of Gunaa caves (earlier known as Devil's Kitchen) where the original film and Manjummel Boys were shot.
