As Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi's latest film Amaran marches on to finish its 25th day in theatres, the actor recently spoke at the 55th International Film Festival of India which is currently taking place in Goa and spoke about his career growth, the challenges he faced and his love for cinema.
In a conversation with actor-producer-politician Kushboo Sundar on the topic 'From small screen to Big Dreams: The inspiring journey of Sivakartikeyan', he said, pointing to the audience, that they are smart as they are looking foward to going to film festivals. "50 per cent is done, I think, because you are in the right place searching for something else. But, I've never been like this. But, I've been a very good cinema lover and a very good audience. That was my first criteria to enter into cinema. I was a very, very big Rajini sir fan. But, I watched all the stars' films."
He continued to say that he watches all of the films in theatres whenever he could find time. "Maybe on the first day or on the second, I have watched films only in theatres. From the year 2005 or 2006, I never watched any film in a pirated version. So, that was my love for the cinema," he added.
Speaking about the initial stages in his career, he said that he was inspired by many Malayalam heroes. "I thought mimicry should be my visiting card, but to enter the media industry, I realised I should improve myself as something else. Then I realised, I can become an anchor because it is only their face that we see throughout a programme. Whereas, we see the contestant only for ten minutes. When there were already established anchors, I wanted to showcase my talent by breaking a pattern. I wanted to casually interact. Even if I do mistake, I wanted them to be in the show."
He revealed that he was scared of experimenting in his films, because he was aware of his limitations. "In the first 5-6 years, maybe, I chose the scripts which I could easily do or I could do some justice to it. Now, stories are choosing me. Be it Maaveeran, Doctor, or Amaran. Amaran chose me because Kamal Haasan sir could have cast anyone. If he calls, anyone would have come and did that film. But that story chose me," he added.
Sivakarthikeyan also shared about a dark moment from his life when he wanted to call it quits for acting. "At one point, I told Aarthi that we can start a business and get out of cinema. She said no. She told me, 'When you had nothing, you fought so much. You have something, people are giving so much of love. Why can't you fight more?'," he said.
Sivakarthikeyan's Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy has received tremendous positive reception from audience and critics. Up next, he is shooting for AR Murugadoss' upcoming untitled film which also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Sanjay and Sachana Namidass.
