Resul Pookutty is known for his candid opinions, and he has not shied away from commenting on the negative feedback for some films and the industry in general. In 2018, he criticised the decision to not have President Ram Nath Kovind give out the National Awards to some of the winners. In 2022, he described Alia Bhatt's character in RRR as just a "prop." The much-awaited Suriya starrer Kanguva released in theatres today, and the Academy Award winner also had something to say about it. Sharing a general take that sums up the negative feedback for the film's sound mixing and lack of clarity in dialogues, Resul stated on Instagram, "A friend of mine, a re-recording mixer send me this clip…. It is disheartening to see a review about sound in our popular films like this. Our craft and artistry caught up in the loudness war… who is to blame?! The sound guy?! Or the innumerable fixes comes at the last moment to satiate all insecurities. High time our fraternity to put your foot down and say things loud and clear. No film will have a repeat value if the audience walk out with head ache!"
It is worth considering that Resul's remark seems more of a general statement about popular films, with Kanguva as an example. His thoughts on the Siva directorial's music is sure to spark discussion among fans and film aficionados alike, especially because he is a renowned sound designer and mixer with an Oscar for his work on Danny Boyle's film Slumdog Millionaire.
Coming back to Kanguva, director Siva's film also stars Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and Redin Kingsley, among others.
