Rumours have been rife about Sathyaraj playing the lead role of PM Modi in an upcoming biopic. Addressing the speculation during the audio launch of his upcoming film Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan, Sathyaraj said, "No one has approached me for the role," echoing a sentiment he shared earlier with the Tamil news website Minnambalam, to which he dismissed the rumours. However, the actor added, "Even if my friend and the late Manivannan were to direct the film with me in the lead cast, he would tell the story as it is. Likewise, if Vijay Milton (Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan filmmaker) directs it, it would convey the truth. I also think that the biopic would turn out to be good if Mari Selvaraj, Vetrimaaran, or Pa Ranjith directs it."
The actor's latest comments come in the wake of his opinion that he would not do roles that conflict with his political ideology. It is to be noted that he played social reformer Periyar EV Ramasamy in the 2007 biopic Periyar and is known for his proclivity to Periyarist ideology.
On the film front, Sathyaraj will next be seen as a character with superhuman powers in the June 7 release Weapon, which marks Guhan Seniappan's sophomore directorial and also stars Vasanth Ravi and Rajiv Menon.
