The trailer of the upcoming political thriller Election, starring Vijay Kumar, has been released on Saturday.
The film, directed by Thamizh, follows a charged local body election caused by caste schism within a political party.
George Maryan, who plays the father of Rasu (Vijay Kumar), comes across as a person who takes immense pride in being a part of the rank and file of a party. The next scene shows the party's local strongman who is particular about fielding people from his community. Subsequently, an inciting incident, which is not disclosed, forces Vijay Kumar to fight the polls against the strongman's son in a challenge to test whether the mandate goes in favour of a leader's son or a cadre's son.
Election stars Vijay Kumar in lead, who was last seen in Fight Club. Besides him, the film stars Preethi Asrani of Ayothi fame, George Maryan, Vathikuchi-fame Dileepan, Richa Joshi, Natchiyal Suganthi, and Pavel Navageethan in important character roles.
The film, directed by Seththumaan-fame Thamizh, has dialogues been penned by writer Azhagiya Periyavan. On the technical front, Mahendran Jayaraj, who is best known for 96, is the cinematographer while Govind Vasantha is the composer, CS Prem Kumar is the editor, and Renganaath Ravee is the sound designer. Election is bankrolled by Adithya under the Reel Good Films banner.
The film will be released in theatres on May 17.
