We had earlier reported that Hot Spot, directed by Vignesh Karthick of Thittam Irandu and Adiyae fame, will be released on March 29. The film's trailer was released a few days back and grabbed significant eyeballs and criticism proportionally for its take on sensitive topics.
In its over two-minute-long trailer, Hot Spot showcased different takes on relationships and sexuality, defying conventional norms. The glimpse also questioned morality as we know it today.
Responding to the criticism received for the trailer during a recent press meet, director Vignesh Karthick clarified that he has made a socially responsible film and the intention behind the cultural shock provided in the trailer is noble. He added that people familiar with his Yours Shamefully short films will be wary of this trope.
On being asked about the lines spoken by a minor girl, seen as distasteful for a daughter-father conversation, the director clarified, "We gave harmless lines for the girl to speak, after which we dubbed it with a 25-year-old voice artist who knew what she was speaking."
Vignesh further said the girl's portion that has garnered criticism carries a crucial social message. "It was appreciated by a five-member CBFC committee when we screened the film for certification," he said.
Actor Kalaiyarasan, who played the role of a father in a particular portion, said it is impractical for an actor to know everything about the movie before agreeing to act. "I can confidently say that my story and character have been written well, and it conveys a socially relevant message," he said.
When CE had asked if the consent of parents was sought to show their child mouthing words that she hadn't spoken, both the actor and director assured that her parents were informed about the same.
The trailer of the film conveys that Hot Spot is an adult film for the family audience. Explaining this, the director said. "While a husband and wife can catch this film in theatres, it is not made for children."
Hot Spot features an ensemble cast which stars Kalaiyarasan, Gouri Kishan, Sandy Master, Adithya Bhaskar, Ammu Abhirami, Janani Iyer, Subhash Selvam and Sofia in pivotal roles. Music is composed by Satish Ragunathan and Vaan. Gokul Binay is handling the cinematography and Muthaiyan is the editor. The film is bankrolled by KJB Talkies and 7 Warrior Films.
