Varalaxmi Sarathkumar slams media outlets for circulating fake news regarding her arrest by NIA

Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has hit back at certain media outlets for sharing an old fake news about her in which she had been called in by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier in 2023. The actor took to her social media handles and lashed out the fake reports and requested media to stop spreading baseless news about her.

In 2023, it was reported that Varalaxmi was summoned by NIA. Later, in an official press release, the actress claimed it was false news. Recently, many news reports claimed that Varalaxmi was arrested in that case regarding an ongoing investigation with her former manager Adilingam, who was allegedly involved in drugs and arms dealing.

On her X handle, she wrote, "It’s so sad that our talented media has no news than to start circulating old fake news. Our dear journalists especially the self-proclaimed news sites and your articles, why don’t you start doing some real journalism? Stop finding flaws with your celebrities, we are trying to act, entertain people, and do our jobs. Why don’t you do yours?! There are 1000 serious issues that need your actual attention! Don’t take our silence to be a sign of weakness. #defamation cases are also #trending now..STOP circulating fake trash and baseless news. And bring back journalism that makes us proud."

Earlier in 2023, Adilingam was arrested in Kerala for possessing 300 kg of heroin and an AK47 gun. When the news came out, Varalaxmi was criticized for her alleged involvement with the suspect. She released a statement saying that she was also simultaneously working with other freelance managers at the time. "After his tenure, we've not had any association or communication with each other till date. I am equally shocked at the news. I would be happy to be of assistance to the government in anyway possible," she added.

On the workfront, Varalaxmi, who was last seen in Teja Sajja's Hanu-Man, directed by Prasanth Varma, will be sharing screen space with Dhanush in his upcoming much-anticipated film Raayan. The film, which marks Dhanush's second directorial venture, also stars Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, SJ Suryah and others.
