Writer-director Pa Ranjith shared on X a poster giving a first look at Daniel Caltagirone's character from his upcoming film Thangalaan, starring Vikram in the lead role. Wishing Caltagirone a happy birthday, Ranjith described the actor as "captivating and talented" and his character in the film as "a deadly combination of daring and diligence." Ranjith is the co-writer and the director of Thangalaan, which also stars Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Pasupathy, among others.
The film is a historical drama based on true events that explores the struggles of mine workers at Karnataka's Kolar Gold Fields. It marks the first collaboration between actor Vikram and writer-director Ranjith. It is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja through his Studio Green banner, alongside Ranjith's Neelam Productions and Jyoti Deshpande's Jio Studios. Tamil Praba co-wrote the screenplay alongside Ranjith, with dialogues by Azhagiya Periyavan. The film has cinematography by A Kishor Kumar, music by GV Prakash, editing by Selva RK, action by Stunner Sam, and art direction by SS Murthi.
Thangalaan is yet to have a release date.
