Popular Hepatologist Cyriac Abby Philips, known by his social media handle name The Liver Doc had recently called out Nayanthara for posting the health benefits of drinking hibiscus tea. A cold war of words followed between the two following which the actor took down her post and shared a cryptic message on the argument.
Nayanthara had claimed that the drink helps cure everything from diabetes to acne, heart-related ailments and even seasonal illnesses. She later took down the post after Philips criticised her for "misleading her 8.7M followers," stating that none of the health benefits she attributed to hibiscus tea had been scientifically proven.
When the actor deleted her post, he noted that there was no apology from Nayanthara. "Post deleted. But no apology. No accountability. Like a surgical strike on public health. Need laws to curb this kind of behavior from celebrities community and empower and support registered medical practitioners (non-Ayush) to provide evidence-based scientific education to improve informed public health choices," he wrote on his X handle.
Nayanthara later shared a cryptic post quoting a few lines by author Mark Twain which read, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." After this, the actor restored her original post on the benefits of hibiscus tea. She also reposted her nutritionist's post and wrote, "Whoever needs an explanation pls go through this post."
The Liver Doc responded to her post in a detailed thread and said, "Hopeless. Just absolutely hopeless. Still not taking any responsibility for misguidance and promoting the pseudoscience peddling nutritionist. Quite sad state of awareness on healthcare here." He also responded to each of Munmun Ganeriwal's claims and reiterated that there is "no human data to showcase any of the claimed benefits. In fact it was traditionally used for hair growth and for the treatment of stomach ulcers and is underresearched."
