SJ Suryah, who was last seen in director Shankar's Indian 2 in a negative role, was asked in a recent interview with Baradwaj Rangan about his recent 'golden phase' as an actor.
"While I do want to portray a variety of roles and give different performances, it is also attributable to the movies I've been a part of," said Suryah. He went on to mention the diversity in the kinds of roles he'd recently played, such as a sleek police officer in the time-loop thriller Maanaadu (2021), a calm and composed professer in Don (2022), and a hyper-attrocious gangster in Mark Antony (2023).
Suryah also mentioned his role in the upcoming film Raayan, which stars and is directed by Dhanush. "My role in Raayan will have a raw and rustic look. It is an intense character."
The trailer, which was released recently, hinted that Dhanush's character Raayan would lock horns with SJ Suryah's character.
Raayan has music by AR Rahman, cinematography by Om Prakash, editing by Prasanna GK, stunts by Peter Hein, and dance choreography by Prabhu Deva and Baba Baskar. The film, which has cleared censorship formalities with an A certificate, is slated to be released in theatres on July 26.
