Lyca Productions, the production house which has bankrolled Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 took to their social media handles to announce that the film, which is currently running in theatres has been trimmed by 12 minutes.
"We heard you! Indian 2 is now trimmed by 12 minutes. Now watch the trimmed version of the film in cinemas near you," the post read.
Ever since the release of the film last week on July 12, the Shankar directorial has been receiving mostly mixed reviews from fans and critics.
Indian was released in 1996 which stars the actor as Senapathy, the freedom fighter-turned-vigilante who fights against corruption. In part two, Kamal Haasan reprises his role from the original film who declares a “second war of independence" as unemployment, corruption and lack of development plague society.
Our CE review of the film read, "The sequel shows little understanding of the soul of the original film, and caricaturises the vigilante protagonist as a cold murderer, who struggles to combine with well-meaning citizens intent on positive social change."
The ensemble cast of the film stars Kajal Aggarwal, Sj Suryah, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Nedumudi Venu, Vivekh, Manobala, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, and Samuthirakani, among others.
Cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and music director Anirudh are part of Indian 2's technical crew. The film is co-produced by Lyca Productions in association with Red Giant Movies.
