While Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light has been creating chatter for all the right reasons across the globe, the film has had troubles securing screens in India. Despite its rave reviews, many shows were cancelled owing to low occupancies.
Highlighting the same, actor Siddharth expressed his views on how success can be measured in a myriad of ways. He shared his skepticism about its reception in India underlining how Payal had to resort creating signature campaigns to bring back the film to the screens. Siddharth spoke about what Payal Kapadia said in an interview with Galatta Plus: "My film released, nobody came, and they cancelled the shows." When people wanted to watch the film, she wrote, "If you want to watch the film, start a signature campaign to bring it back for one show."
He further added, “Now, if you ask Payal, she managed to go and win at Cannes. She is nominated as a director at the Globes. She is nominated for Best Foreign Picture. Her producers think they have made the greatest success of a film. But that film is never going to be seen by the audience that calls their film a great film."
AWIAL has been the recipient of numerous awards ever since it won the Grand Prix award at this year's Cannes Film Festival. It also earned two Golden Globe nominations. The film was not selected by India to compete at the 97th Academy Awards.
Siddharth also pointed at the irony of how the success of her film, leading to multiple awards may not necessarily translate to audience viewership. “So, both are great films for people who made them and they are great successes for the people who made them. But that’s the beauty of a panel where both those films get discussed where you bring out what success means," he said.
On the workfront, Siddharth was last seen in Miss You, directed by N Rajasekar. The film starred Ashika Ranganath as the female lead. Up next he has the untitled Siddharth 40, helmed by Sri Ganesh of 8 Thottakkal fame. Apart from Siddharth, the cast of the film also includes Chaithra Achar, Meetha Raghunath, Devayani, and Sarathkumar.
