The Tamil Nadu government, on Thursday, issued a GO permitting one special show for director Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part 2 on the film's release date (December 20).

The GO reads that the state government allows the screening of one special show of Viduthalai Part 2 on December 20 at 9 AM. It further read that theatres in Tamil Nadu can run a maximum of five shows of the film just for one day and the last show should get over at 2 AM.

The government has instructed the Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Additional Chief Secretary to ensure that no theatre gets affected by poor hygiene and poor crowd management owing to the extra show.

Viduthalai Part 2, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, is a sequel to the 2023 social drama Viduthalai. The film follows a newly joined constable, Kumaresan (Soori), who is torn between his conscience and duty while pursuing a revolutionary brigand, Perumal Vaathiyaar (Vijay Sethupathi). While the first installment ends with Kumaresan nabbing Perumal, the second part is expected to revolve around events following the arrest and Perumal's past and why he chose this path.

The first part received positive reviews and is considered one of the most hard-hitting films of Tamil cinema. While most of the second part had been shot during the production of the first part itself, the remainder of the filming and an extensive postproduction did not permit an immediate release after Part 1's success. Viduthalai Part 2 will also see Chethan, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, Saravana Subbiah, and Munnar Ramesh reprising their roles from the first film.

On the technical team, Viduthalai Part 2 has cinematography handled by R. Velraj and editing by R Ramar. It is produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner and Vetrimaaran's Grass Root Film Company. The films were earlier screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
