The makers of SP Shatkhivel's next Alangu dropped the trailer for the film ahead of its release on December 27.

The glimpse shows a tribal community cut off from the rest of the population that lives in the verdant border area of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Work takes them to the rubber plantation in Kerala, where there is a flare-up between the plantation owners, who are Keralites and Tamil workers. The reason for the conflict is not known yet, but the trailer teases with a final line where someone is heard saying, "Things would have been normal if not for this dog."

With all the promotional materials released by the makers so far, it is understood that the canine plays a huge role in the film. The trailer glimpse too reveals that the dog owned by the lead character, played by Gunanidhi, is the agent of chaos; in what way exactly? We'll have to wait till the release.

Apart from Gunanidhi, the film, based on true events that took place near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, also stars Chemban Vinod and Kaali Venkat. The title is inspired by the dog breed Alangu, which has connections to Chola emperor Rajaraja the Great's war dogs. Appani Sarath and Sreerekha are cast in supporting roles.

Shakthivel is well-known for writing and directing films such as Urumeen (2015) and Payanigal Gavanikkavum (2022). He was associated with Manikandan's Good Night (2023) as the film's creative producer.

Producers of Alangu comprise D Sabareesh and SA Sangamithra, who earlier collaborated on the GV Prakash-Gautham Menon film Selfie.

Alangu is shot in the forest locations of Attapadi, Idukki, Anaikatti, Kambam, and Theni. It has cinematography by S Pandikumar, music by Ajesh, and editing by San Lokesh.
