It has been a few days since the release of RJ Balaji's Sorgavaasal and the film has been receiving mixed to positive reviews from the audience and critics. The film is directed by debutant Sidharth Vishwanath, an erstwhile assistant of filmmaker Pa Ranjith.

Sidharth took to his X handle to share that his mentor Pa Ranjith had met him and congratulated him for his debut film. "Always a special feeling getting big words of appreciation from your Master on Sorgavaasal. Thank you for all your guidance and encouragement Pa Ranjith sir! No better feeling for a student. Will carry them for a lifetime," he wrote.

The Thangalaan filmmaker also wrote that he was proud of Sidharth and appreciated his craft. "You’ve done amazing in Sorgavaasal. I really appreciate your craft—how you handled the characters and staged the scenes. It’s not something we see often in regular Tamil movies. Honest filmmaking. Big shoutout to Tamizh Prabha and Ashwin Ravichandran for the brilliant writing. RJ Balaji, Selvaraghavan, Shobasakthi, Saniya Iyappan and the whole team delivered great performances, and Editor Selva’s editing was top-notch. The cast and crew, actors and technicians, have done extraordinary work! (sic)" he added.

Our CE review of the film read, "Sidharth Vishwanath has a distinct filmmaking style but it somehow ends up detrimental to the storytelling. Over-designed name cards for character introduction, vital scenes filled to the brim with music, the camera rolling around in the mud with the fighters, a frame being shown repeatedly to hammer home the allegory, and hyper-stylised editing, all work to pull our attention away, which makes sure we don’t connect with the characters or the proceedings on screen."

Apart from Balaji, the film has Saniya Iyappan as the female lead, with Selvaraghavan, Karunas, Balaji Sakthivel, Natty, Sharaf-U-Dheen, Hakkim Shah, Ravi Raghavendra, and Samuel Robinson in prominent roles.

Sorgavaasal is written by Thamizh Praba, Ashwin Ravichandran and director Sidharth Vishwanath. On the technical crew, the film has music by Christo Xavier, cinematography by Prince Anderson, editing by Selva RK and art direction by S Jayachandran. Sorgavaasal is backed by Think Studios and Swipe Right Studio.
