Praises for director Nithilan Saminathan's Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film that was released on June 14, are still not showing signs of abatement. To add to it, Nithilan has won the Best Director award for the film in the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
He was nominated in the category along with Imtiaz Ali (Amar Singh Chamkila), Kabir Khan (Chandu Champion), Karan Johar (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani), Rajkumar Hirani (Dunki), Rahul Sadasivan (Bramayugam), and Vidhu Vinod Chopra (12th Fail).
Maharaja was released on June 14 and went on to become a critical and commercial success before being released on Netflix last month. The film also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natarajan Subramaniam in pivotal roles alongside Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Boys Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja, Kalki, Vinod Sagar, and Sachana Namidass.
Maharaja is produced by Sudhan Sundaram through his Passion Studios banner and Jagadish Palanisamy under his banner, The Route. It has cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman, music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, and editing by Philomin Raj.
