The first single from the upcoming film Saala was released on Friday. The song, titled Ethirthavan Ellam, is composed by Theeson. The director of the film, SD Manipaul, is the lyricist for the song, which is sung by Anthony Dassan.

Ethirthavan Ellam is a kuththu number that is shot on the premises of a bar. It is choreographed by Nobel and features debutant Dheeran, among other cast members.

The film also stars debutant Reshma. It is set around a bar, with its events following the tender process for a popular bar in North Chennai. Two gangs fight over the tender of this bar in this film, which is said to eventually take a stand against alcohol.

In an interview with Cinema Express, the director, SD Manipaul, said the idea of Saala came about after he read a news article a few years ago. "I spoke to the then-Assistant Commissioner of Police and got his insights. After that, I worked as a server in a bar for three months to understand the customers, the supply chain, the difference between each spirit, and the politics. I also spoke to people involved in the tender process for bars," said Manipaul.
