Fans and celebrities from Tinseltown have been extending their wishes to actor-politician Kamal Haasan for completing 64 years in the film industry and entering his 65th year.

The actor's maiden film, Kalathur Kannamma, which introduced him as a child artist, released on this date in 1960. The film, directed by A Bhimsingh and written by Javar Seetharaman, starred Gemini Ganesan and Savitri in lead roles. The 'Ammavum Neeye' song that features Kamal Haasan is popular to this date.

The National Award-winning film earned Kamal Haasan laurels, with some critics calling him a "new star". His performance also earned him the President's Gold Medal.

Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies extended its wishes by posting a behind-the-scenes picture from the sets of the director's next Thug Life with Kamal.

Last seen in Indian 2, the recently released sequel to his 1996 vigilante film with Shankar, in addition to Thug Life, Kamal Haasan also has the sequel to the Prabhas-starrer Kalki 2898 AD and stunt directors Anbariv's directorial.
