First look of Harkara out

The first look poster of Harkara, the upcoming Tamil film starring Ram Arun Castro and Kaali Venkat in the lead roles, was released by the makers on social media. Besides acting, Ram will also helm the film, marking his debut directorial. Ram has earlier acted in the 2019 film V1 Murder Case.

Speaking to CE, Ram said that Harkara will be a historical drama with a tinge of comedy element. “The story will run in two periods, 1870s and 2023. While I will act as the postman in the period portions, Kaali Venkat will represent the present timeline. The story will be about the postal service from the times of the first postman to the current.” He also added that the film will be based on true events but will have a fictional spin to it, to heighten the storytelling aspect.

“Postmen were the only source of communication back then and even now in remote places. They connect everybody. The title of the film refers to the Bengali word, and means messenger. The  concept of messengers began when Mughals started to use them, which then evolved into postal service during the British times. There was once a time in history when the concept of messengers began with 1300 runners. This film will be about one such runner,” he added.

The shooting of the film has been wrapped up and the makers are looking for a theatrical release sometime in June or July. It is currently in the final stages of post production. Harkara was shot in mountainous areas of Theni, where the filmmaker hails from. “I have seen a lot of postmen going up and down the hilly terrains to deliver messages, even during the current times. Sometime about them and their dedication prompted me to make this film,” Ram mentioned.

The technical crew of the film consists of two cinematographers, Philip R Sundar and Lokesh Elangovan, who shot the past and present respectively. Dani Charles is the editor, while Ramshanker composed the music. Harkara will consist of four songs.
