Actor Santhanam is set to reunite with his Dikkiloona director Karthik Yogi for his next, titled Vadakkupatti Ramasamy

Backed by People Media Factory, which has previously backed Goodachari and Witness, Vadakkupatti Ramasamy is billed as a period comedy-drama. Opening up about the title, the theme, and much more, Karthik Yogi says, "I am a big fan of Goundamani sir. The film is set in Vadakkupatti and Santhanam anna's character is named Ramasamy. I believe the 90's kids would be able to relate more with the original Goundamani comedy."

Karthik shares that his second project with Santhanam was in the works right since the release of Dikkiloona but they could not proceed with it because of the second wave of the pandemic. "When People Media Factory wanted to produce a film with Santhanam, he connected me to the team, and Vadakkupatti Ramasamy happened," says Karthik.

Similar to Dikkiloona, a sci-fi film that employed a time machine to good effect to tell a story about a man and his decisions, Vadakkupatti Ramasamy too deals with time, albeit not in such a dynamic fashion. "The film deals with a real-life incident that happened in a village in the 1960s-70s. Also, Ramaswamy is an iconic Tamil name that continues to create waves, and we have explored layers and meanings behind that name," says Karthik, who assures that Vadakkupatti Ramasamy will be a complete comedy entertainer with a strong social message.

Apart from Santhanam, the makers have roped in Jai Bhim-fame Tamizh, John Vijay, MS Bhaskar, Rajendran, Seshu, Ravi Mariya, and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others. "We are still searching for the female lead, and we want to bring in a noted actor to play the role," says Karthik.

With Sean Roldan composing the music, Vadakkupatti Ramasamy will have cinematography and editing by Deepak and Shiva Nandeeswaran, respectively.

Vadakkupatti Ramasamy will go on floors on January 24, and the makers are planning for a 2023 release.
