I really respect & admire Nayanthara: Malavika Mohanan clarifies her comment on 'Lady Superstar' title

Actor Malavika Mohanan is currently awaiting the release of her Malayalam film Christy, which is set to hit the theatres on Friday. While the actor has been giving interviews as part of promotions, her recent statement on using monikers like "Lady Superstars" did not sit well with certain section of fans. Sharing one such news report that referred to the controversy, Malavika took to social media to clarify her stance.

In one of her interviews, Malavika spoke about giving titles like "Lady Superstar" being given to female actors. Malavika mentioned how female actors should be just called "superstars" instead of adding a prefix of "lady". It is to be noted that in the south, actors Manju Warrier and Nayanthara are commonly referred to as "Lady Superstars".

While this spiraled into a controversy, Malavika shared a news report of the same and clarified that she did not comment on the actors in particular. “My comment was about a term that is used to describe female actors & not about any specific actor. I really respect & admire Nayanthara, and as a senior really look upto her incredible journey. Can people please calm down. Especially the tabloid journos,” Malavika mentioned in her tweet.

It is to be noted that earlier in the year, Malavika, without taking any names, mentioned one of Nayanthara's scenes, and commented on its staging. To this, Nayanthara responded in her interview, that the film was made on a commercial aspect and aesthetics.

On the work front, Malavika will be next seen in Christy. She is also working with Vikram’s Thangalaan, under Pa Ranjith’s directorial.
