Leo Trailer Breakdown: Assassin, chocolatier or a sweet killer?

The most-awaited title reveal of the Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay reunion project has been made. And Leo it is! Heavily borrowed from Vikram's title promo style, the brand new featurette shows Vijay's lonely Leo making chocolate from scratch.  He hand-picks the dried cocoa beans, roasts them and mixes them with all the ingredients, on the other hand, he is seen leading a parallel life in the night as an assassin, who forges his own sword.

We also get to see an army of supposed gangsters (who have a mask that is eerily similar to the one worn by Bejoy and finally Amar in Vikram) heading out in a long lineup of cars to unleash an attack on Leo. As he gets the perfectly sweet chocolate ready on one end and the bloody sword on the other, the rivals arrive at his den. Before the face-off he dunks the sword in a barrel of molten chocolate and utters, "Bloody sweet!", once again hinting at the duality in the film.

Though the styles of both Vikram and Leo promos are identical, the makers haven't made a clear-cut announcement on whether Leo is a part of the much-hyped Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which currently connects films like Vikram (1986), Kaithi and Vikram (2022). But there are subtle hints of a possible collaboration in the teaser, mainly animal symbolism. As the enemies approach the camp of Leo, we see a lone eagle hovering over them in the sky. And the bird is a direct reference to Kamal Haasan's Vikram. Also, we see Leo chopping off the heads of a venomous snake, which in a way can be taken as a callback to the deceased Santhanam (Vijay Sethupathi), who had a double snake tattoo on his back.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo marks the second collaboration with Vijay after Master. The upcoming film is produced by Seven Screen Studio. The film features Trisha as the female lead, who has earlier worked with Vijay in Ghilli, Thirupachi and Kuruvi. The team is currently shooting in Kashmir.

The upcoming film also features Arjun, Mysskin, Priya Anand, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, among others. The film's technical crew includes cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, stunt choreographer Anbariv, editor Philomin Raj, art director N Satheesh and dance choreographer Dinesh.

Leo will hit the theatres on October 19.
