Film fraternity condoles Vijayakanth's demise 

On Thursday, veteran actor and journalist Vijayakanth died at a Chennai hospital after taking treatment for pneumonia and testing positive for Covid-19. An actor, who was an icon by himself, and starred in over 150 films, the film fraternity paid their respects to Vijayakanth on social media.

Actor Khushboo, who has shared the screen space with Vijayakanth in several films like Simmasanam, Karuppu Nila, Veeram Vilanja Mannu, wrote on X, “We have lost a gem. A man with a golden heart. A man who truly deserved a lot more. Our beloved Captain, our Vijaykanth. Sir, hope you are finally at peace. Deepest condolences to his family, fans and devoted party workers.” She also requested the media to grant her privacy. “He was a family to us. Give us a moment in private to grief and come to terms with his loss. Everything else can wait. Please,” she added.

Sarathkumar released a statement on behalf of All India Samathuva Makhal Katchi and expressed the shock of his demise, just like others who hoped that he would recover one day. He also expressed his condolences to the bereaving family.

New age actors like RJ Balaji, Dushara Vijayan, Ashok Selvan, also took to social media to share their tributes.

"You don’t have to be in the film industry to say this, even if we’re not part of d industry, miles away in some remote part of Tamilnadu, we all have felt this. You’ll always be remembered as the kindest, nicest, boldest human, leader, legend,” Balaji said.

Dushara wrote, “Deeply saddened by the news of Actor #Vijayakanth's sir passing. His memorable performances have left an indelible mark on the film industry. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ashok Selvan, referred Vijayakanth as “Captain”, said that the loss “feels too personal”. He added,” Your legacy will live on forever. Goodbye, Captain.”

Pradeep Ranganathan wrote, "You are an inspiration, role model . Always your die hard fan . I love you."

Producer Archana Kalpathi said his "kindness and generosity knew no bounds". Mentioning how she loved watching his films while growing up, she said, "His legacy of helping anyone in need will forever light our paths. The industry lost one of its Captains today."

Director AR Murgadoss who directed Ramanaa starring the late actor condoled and said that he will miss his majesty, honesty and humanity.

Sun Pictures, Lyca Productions, DVV Entertainment production banners also paid their respects.

Vijayakanth was 71. He is survived by his wife Premalatha and two sons.
