The sequel to Thani Oruvan, the 2015 Tamil film starring Jayam Raja in the lead role, was announced by the makers on social media on Monday. The announcement was made marking eight years since the release of the film.

Thani Oruvan revolved around a cop (played by Jayam Ravi), who is on a mission to nab scientist Siddharth Abhimanyu who runs a medical mafia.

AGS Entertainment, which backed the 2015 film, will also be backing the sequel. Retaining the old team, the makers also announced that Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara who worked in the 2015 film, will also star in Thani Oruvan 2. Mohan Raja will be returning to the director's chair, with the film set to go on floors in 2024.

Makers of the film released a promo announcing the sequel. It shows Mohan Raja sitting down to write the sequel of the film, while Ravi’s Mithran is shown to be picking a range of weapons as per the director’s order. Just when the viewers guess who would be next enemy for Mithran after Siddharth Abimanyu, Mohan Raja says he will come looking for the protagonist.
