'Premam is my all-time favourite and kept me alive at my lowest'

.... pens Sudha Kongara in a note addressed to Alphonse Puthren following the latter's now-deleted announcement of quitting cinema after being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
'Premam is my all-time favourite and kept me alive at my lowest'

Recently, filmmaker Alphonse Puthren revealed that he has Autism Spectrum Disorder, and following that diagnosis, the Premam helmer announced his departure from making feature films for the theatres. However, he had stated that he would still be making content for OTT, song videos, and short films, in a now-deleted social media post.

In response to Alphonse's revelation, filmmaker Sudha Kongara, in a brief note shared on her X handle, wrote that she would miss his cinema and expressed her love for Premam. "I’m going to miss your cinema. Premam is my all-time favourite and kept me alive at my lowest. I would watch it on a loop. It made me, a total cynic, fall in love again with the idea of being in love." The Soorarai Pottru maker concluded the note by saying, "Please continue to create in any form, and I will consume."

Since the filmmaker took down the post, clarity on the issue is awaited. Meanwhile, Alphonse last directed the Malayalam film Gold, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara. He also announced his Tamil film Gift with the cast of Sandy, Kovai Sarala, Sahana Sarvesh, and Magalakshmi Sudarshan. He also shared an enterprising video about the music composing sessions of the film, which has Alphonse working with the legendary Ilaiyaraaja for the first time.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sudha Kongara will helm Suriya's next film, titled Puranaanooru, also starring Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Fahadh, and Vijay Varma in prominent roles.
