Actor Vijay's recently-released film Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has been breaking records at the box office by raking big numbers. The film which was released amid much anticipation on October 19, earned a sum of Rs 148.5 crores on the first day itself. Currently, it has amassed more than Rs 400 crores.
According to a new report by Variety, the Tamil language action film has amassed $48.5 million worldwide, which makes it rank higher than the cumulative performance of Killers of the Flower Moon, the highly-anticipated film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The report says that the film stands at a worldwide cumulative of $48.5 million (after four days). Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, the 3.5-hour-long drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro, stands just behind at $44 million.
Leo, written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, also stars Trisha, Mysskin, Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, and Mansoor Ali Khan among others. The film marks the second collaboration of Vijay with Lokesh after Master.
The Vijay-starrer is part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which already consists of Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022). Upon release, the film opened to positive to mixed reception.
An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "In this enjoyable first half, Lokesh Kanagaraj breaks many rules of the hero-centric film format. It feels like Vijay is well and truly invested in playing this almost crazy man, with all his jagged edges."
Meanwhile, Killers of the Flower Moon boasts a star ensemble including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, among others.
From a screenplay penned by Eric Roth and Scorsese, the film is based on David Grann’s bestselling book of the same name. Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.
Killers of The Flower Moon will premiere in theatres in India on October 27.
