Darshana Rajendran and Darshan to team up for Tamil film

Actors Darshan (KanaaThunivu) and Darshana Rajendran (Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Hridayam) are set to star in the upcoming Tamil film directed by Thamizh who last made critically acclaimed film Seththumaan.

While Seththumaan revolved around food politics, the upcoming and yet-to-be-titled will be on politics that surround love. Speaking to CE, he said, “This film will deal with love and the caste politics that surround it. It is based on the novel Pookuli by Perumal Murugan.”

It is to be noted that Seththumaan was based on Perumal Murugan's short story Varugari and the upcoming film will mark the director’s second time adapting the author’s literary works. On speaking about his works, “Not all novels and short films can be made into a film, but only those which inspire us, along with issues that has impacted us and the society. In that way, this is something I have read long back. And in today’s times, there are many issues like honour killing, naadaga kadhal at times when love is the most important thing. It was then I got reminded of this novel and wrote a screenplay for it. I have taken the knot of the story and given a different presentation.”

Thamizh also said that he wanted to make something like Marathi film Sairat. “I wanted it to be fresh faces, but Tamil industry works in a different way and I need some known faces. Darshana is one of the finest performers we have and for Darshan, I treat him as fresh face who is needed for this story,” he added.

The film, which is described as a “travel film” is set to go on floors on Friday and will be shot in Bengaluru, Hogenakkal, Dharmapuri, Mysore, and other places. While Seththumaan had a festival run following an OTT release, the filmmaker says that this film will be fit for a theatrical release.

The technical crew consists of cinematographer Deepak (who directed Witness), sound designer Anthony Ruban (The Elephant Whisperers), and Bindhumalini and Vedanth Bharadwaj (Aruvi), composing the score.

It is backed by S Vinoth Kumar who has served as executive producer in films like Nitham Oru Vaanam, and Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal.
