Sudha Kongara: Muthazhagu is one of the greatest woman characters written by a man

In a recent interview, producer Gnanavel Raja mentioned that filmmaker Sudha Kongara referred to Ameer's 2005 film Raam as flawed. On Sunday, Sudha Kongara shared a note on her social media handle that seems to denounce the producer's statements.

In the interview, Gnanavelraja mentioned that after the release of the film Raam, he, along with actor Karthi and Sudha, watched the film together. During this time, Sudha expressed that the film's making was subpar. Karthi, on the other hand, expressed a square stance.

What it seems like a response to these claims, in the note she shared on her X handle, Sudha mentioned that Priyamani's character Muthazhugu from Ameer's 2007 directorial Paruthiveeran is one of the greatest female characters written by a man. She also revealed that she had asked her female leads in Irudhi Suttru and Soorarai Pottru to watch Paruthiveeran as a reference, and mentioned it as her homage to Ameer.

" Feb 2nd 2016. I got a call from Ameer Anna. I was driving outside Prasad Studios. I remember the exact moment because he was one of the first and few from the industry to call and praise me for Irudhi Suttru. I just told him one thing then, my Madhi is inspired by Muthazhugu. I went on and on about one of the greatest female characters written by a man! I had made both the actresses who played Madhi and later Bommi watch Paruthiveeran as a reference. And THIS is my homage to a master filmmaker of Tamil cinema. This is all I have to say." wrote Sudha Kongara on her X handle.

It's worth noting that Gnanavel Raja's recent comments about director Ameer on Paruthiveeran have been met with widespread criticism online. Filmmaker and actor Samuthirakani and Sasikumar have come out in support of Ameer and denounced Gnavel's claims.
