Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda Double X, which was released in theatres on November 10, has been receiving great praise from audiences and critics. Several noted celebrities including Rajinikanth, director Shankar, Vignesh Shivan and actor Silambarasan had congratulated and congratulated the director and commended his work.
Starring SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence in lead roles, Nimisha Sajayan also plays a prominent part as a tribal woman and Alius Caesar's (Lawrence) wife.
During a recent interaction which was held a week after the release which saw the cast and crew in attendance, Karthik Subbaraj shut down a reporter for asking a derogatory question about casting Nimisha Sajayan in the film. The journalist asked, "Even though Nimisha doesn't look that beautiful, she would have performed very well in the film. What was the reason for casting her?" To this, Karthik responded, "How can you say she is not beautiful? It is all in the mindset. You cannot put forth such remarks."
Santhosh Narayanan, the music composer for the film, pitched in to share his views on his X platform. He wrote, "I was there. It was not just about the ridiculous ‘beauty’ question for the reporter. There was a conscious effort from the guy to ask something controversial and he was so proud after asking this. Nothing has changed since the appalling ‘Jigarthanda’ - ‘Figuredhanda’ question 9 years ago."
Jigarthanda Double X is the sequel to the 2014 film Jigarthanda. The two films have a commonality of following a filmmaker and gangster. In the sequel, Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah play the lead with the latter disguising as a filmmaker to make a Tamil film starring the former, as the first dark-skinned Tamil hero.
The film opened for Diwali to largely positive responses. The cast also includes Ilavarasu, Sanjana Natarajan, and Naveen Chandra in prominent roles. Jigarthanda Double X's technical crew includes music composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer S S Thirunavukarasu, who collaborated with Karthik Subbaraj in Mercury and Petta, and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali.
