Several noted celebrities including director Shankar, Vignesh Shivan and actor Silambarasan have been heaping praise on Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda Double X which was released in theatres on November 10. The latest to join the bandwagon is actor Rajinikanth who commended SJ Surya and Raghava Lawrence's performance while noting that he is proud of Karthik Subbaraj and his team.
He released a statement on his X handle which was shared by Karthik Subbaraj. Stating that the film is like a 'kurinji' flower, Rajinikanth said that the film is a unique story which fans of cinema haven't seen before. "It also brings about a surprise if 'Lawrence also acts like this?'. SJ Suryah combines his quality of a villain, comedian and supporting roles. Thiru has played with his camera. The efforts of the art director is praise-worthy," he added.
Rajinikanth also congratulated stunt choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan, and music composer Santhosh Narayanan. He also said that the people who acted as tribals have breathed life into their roles.
Jigarthanda Double X is the sequel to the 2014 film Jigarthanda. The two films have a commonality of following a filmmaker and gangster. In the sequel, Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah play the lead with the latter disguising as a filmmaker to make a Tamil film starring the former, as the first dark-skinned Tamil hero.
The film opened for Diwali to largely positive responses. The cast also includes Nimisha Sajayan, Ilavarasu, Sanjana Natarajan, and Naveen Chandra in prominent roles. Jigarthanda Double X's technical crew includes music composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer S S Thirunavukarasu, who collaborated with Karthik Subbaraj in Mercury and Petta, and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali.
The film is backed by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Kathiresan under the Stone Bench Films & Five Star Creations banners.
