Bharathiraja: Modern Love Chennai helped me break out of my routine and try a new pattern

One of the shorts in Modern Love Chennai, the upcoming Prime Video anthology, is directed by veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja.

Titled Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal, the short features Kishore, Ramya Nambessan, and Vijayalakshmi. It has music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Recently, speaking at the trailer launch and press meet, Bharathiraja revealed that working on such a project was a great learning experience.

"I am a traditional filmmaker. But Modern Love Chennai helped me break out of my routine and try something new. My actors Vijayalakshmi and Kishore did a great job with the execution. I also learnt the simple yet beautiful way of telling a story," she said.

Since the film is all about love, he noted that there is no life without love and one can't become an artist without falling in love. Hailing the anthology's creator Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the director said that he thinks intellectually and that through this project, he has earned a good friend.

"With time, the taste and preferences of the audiences are also changing and I think essential for filmmakers to keep up with that. I want to learn and do films in this pattern and win like them," he added.

About his collaboration with Ilaiyaraaja, Bharathiraja recalled that although they have been working together since 16 Vayadhinile, he stated that Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal was unlike the previous ones.

"So I wondered How he would pull off music for this kind of a film. But he did complete justice with his composition. It is very apt and different from his previous works.
