The trailer of Sanya Malhotra-starrer quirky satire Kathal dropped on Thursday. The Netflix film, directed by debutant director Yashowardhan Mishra, also stars Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Neha Saraf, Gurpal Singh and Anantvijay Joshi.
Kathal will premiere on Netflix on May 19.
The film is set in the fictional town of Moba. Vijay, plays an MLA named Pateria, who lodges a complaint about two missing 15 kg jackfruits from his garden. Sanya essays the role of young police officer Mahima Basor who is tasked with finding the missing fruits. On the other hand, Rajpal plays a scoop hungry journalist who is eager to know what is going on with the case. The trailer promises a lot of absurd humour and quirky dialogues.
Written by Yashowardhan and Ashok Mishra, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Guneet Monga and Achin Jain. Guneet recently won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short with Netflix's The Elephant Whisperers at the 95th Academy Awards in March.
Sanya was last seen in HIT: The First Case with Rajkummar Rao in 2022. She is appearing next in the Shah Rukh-starrer Jawan. The actor is also playing Vicky Kaushal's wife in the biopic Sam Bahadur directed by Meghna Gulzar. Sanya’s Dangal co-actor Fatima Sana Shaikh is also part of the cast.
