
Condolences have been pouring in from all corners ever since the news of the death of actor-politician Vijayakanth came in the morning. The 71-year-old passed away after being diagnosed with pneumonia. Politicians and his co-actors have expressed condolences after his death.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, paid a visit to the actor's residence to pay his respects and penned a long note about the same. "Vijayakanth, who has a good heart, is an achiever who has made successful marks through his hard work in the film industry and in public life. As an actor, actor's union president, political party leader, legislator, and leader of the opposition, whatever task he took up, he devoted himself fully to it and supported everyone around him. He was familiar to me as a family friend. He had a distinct kind of love for Kalaignar," he said on his X handle. He announced that his last rites would happen with full state honours.
His son and MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also a noted actor, also wrote a heartfelt note on his X handle. He expressed his shock and sadness at his death and mentioned that he is a great humanist and is very brave. "He was the indomitable hero of Tamil cinema. The love that he had for Kalaignar and Kalaignar had for him cannot be expressed in words. He is an irreparable loss to the Tamil film world and the world of politics," he said.
Former Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Edappadi K Palaniswami conveyed deepest condolences to Premalatha Vijayakant, her family and the party cadre."I pray that the soul of Mr. Vijayakanth, who has done many active works in public life and in the field of art, rests in the feet of God," he said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he was deeply saddened by Vijayakant’s death. “His contributions to cinema and politics have left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions,” Gandhi tweeted. “My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans during this difficult time."
Minister of Information Technology and Digital Services and MLA P Thiaga Rajan said that he was pained by Vijayakanth's demise. "I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, volunteers and fans of Vijayakanth who was fondly called Captain not only by the film industry but also by the public," he said.
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan offered condolences to family, volunteers and fans who are grieving his loss. In an X post, he said, "Vijayakanth, a revolutionary artist who made his mark in both the fields of cinema and politics, will remain forever in our memories. The news of the death of my beloved brother Vijayakanth, the founder of DMDK, a unique actor and the captain of Tamil cinema, who was loved by all, is deeply saddening."
Sarathkumar released a statement on behalf of All India Samathuva Makhal Katchi and expressed the shock of his demise, just like others who hoped that he would recover one day. He also expressed his condolences to the bereaving family.
