Chemban Vinod Jose's new Tamil film titled Alangu

SP Shakthivel, who last directed Payanigal Gavanikkavum, the Tamil remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Vikruthi, is set for his next directorial venture titled Alangu. The film, which marks acclaimed Malayalam actor Chemban Vinod's return to Tamil film after the blockbuster Vikram, also stars Sarath Appani, Kaali Venkat and debutant actor Gunanidhi in prominent roles 

Inspired by true events that happened near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, the film centres around the clashes between Kerala's political group and Tamil Nadu's tribal youths. Speaking about the plot, Shakthivel says, "Chemban Vinod and Sarath Appani play siblings, and the former essays the role of a politician, while Gunanidhi represents the tribal gang, and a dog plays a crucial role in the film." About the inclusion of actors like Chemban Vinod and Sarath, he adds, "Their characters will have only Malayam dialogues in the films, and we kept it as authentic as possible."

Speaking about the unique title, SP Shakthivel says, "It's an ancient reference for dogs that were part of King Raja Raja Chola's war dog troops." Further elaborating on the connection between the title and the plot, the director adds," We have linked a brief of this historical aspect to the core narrative."

Alangu is billed as a thriller drama that is mounted on high-octane action sequences. Diving deep into the genre of the film, Shakthivel says, " It's a proper commercial film. Primarily, Alangu can be regarded as an action thriller. However, the film also has ample drama. If you're a dog lover, unequivocally, this film will excite you for sure. For others, Alangu will deliver a visual experience topped with action and drama."

Backed by D Sabareesh and SA Sangamithra, under the banner of DG Film Company & Magnas Productions, Alangu has significant promise on the graphic and VFX front and is expected to be released in December.

The film also stars Sreerekhaa, Kotravai,Regin Rose, Shanmugam Muthusamy, Master Ajay, Idhayakumar. Alangu's technical crew comprises cinematographer  S Pandikumar, editor San Lokesh and music composer Ajesh.
