We earlier reported that Slumdog Millionaire-fame Madhur Mittal was headlining 800, a Tamil film based on the life and career of cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan. On Tuesday, the makers announced that producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, who last backed Samantha's Yashoda, has acquired the all India distribution rights of 800.

Directed by MS Sripathy, 800 also stars Mahima Nambiar, Naren, Naaser, Vela Ramamurthy, Riythvika, Arul Das, Hari Krishnan, and Sharath Lohithaswa. 800 is co-written by Booker Prize laureate Shehan Karunatilaka. The film, originally shot in Tamil, will be released in Telugu, Hindi and English as well.

800 was extensively shot in domestic locations like Chennai, Chandigarh and Kochi, in addition to international locations like Sri Lanka, England and Australia. Speaking about the film, Krishna Prasad said, "Bringing Muralitharan's life onto the big screens is a challenging task. He had been through so many tough situations and stood strong. He holds the record for taking 800 wickets and our film title commemorates the same. The film covers his journey from his childhood to becoming a cricket legend. I tasted success by giving Yashoda a pan-Indian release as a producer last year. I am proud to release 800 across India."

800 is currently in post-production. The film's makers plan to unveil the trailer in September and release the film in October. Ghibran is the music director of the film, and it has cinematography by RD Rajasekhar and editing by Praveen KL.
