The makers of Subramaniapuram released a new trailer ahead of the film's re-release on August 4. The film is being re-released marking the occasion of 15 years of the film's release. The new trailer adds to the nostalgia, as it is a montage of key scenes from the film, with the BGM running in the background.
Subramaniapuram marked the directorial debut of actor Sasikumar. A period action film, Jai, Sasikumar, Swathy, Samuthirkani, and Ganja Karuppu, played prominent roles. Released in 2008, the film was met with critical acclaim and commercial success.
The film is set against the backdrop of the 1980s Madurai and centres around revenge entangled within a love story. In various instances, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has mentioned that the film served as an inspiration for his film Gangs of Wasseypur. Subramaniapuram had music by James Vasanthan and cinematography by SR Kathir.
Meanwhile, Sasikumar was last seen in Ayothi. He will be next seen in Pagaivanuku Arulvai and an untitled Tamil film alongside Naveen Chandra. However, while celebrating 15 years of Subramaniapuram, Sasikumar revealed that he will be back to the director’s chair. The filmmaker-actor is set to helm a web series.
