

The makers of Ponniyin Selvan, the film adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's literary magnum opus, are busy promoting the film ahead of the sequel's release on April 28. On Thursday, actor Parthiban, who plays Chinna Pazhuvettaraiyar in the film, took to Twitter to share that PS 1 will be re-released in theatres ahead of the sequel's release.
Sharing a photo of himself along with Mani Ratnam, the actor wrote in Tamil, "I asked Mani sir to re-release Ponniyin Selvan 1 ahead of the sequel's release, so people could watch both films back to back." He further shared a screenshot of a chat he had with Mani Ratnam, in which the director said, "Planning to release PS 1 in a few theatres on 21st April."
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan I was received very well and minted big at the box office. Ponniyin Selvan II brings back original cast members from the first like Karthi, Trisha, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Rahman.
With the cinematography handled by Ravi Varman, AR Rahman composed the music while Sreekar Prasad handled the editing and Thota Tharani took care of the production design.
