Actor M Sasikumar's upcoming film Naan Mirugamaai Maara is gearing up to hit the theatres on Friday. Directed by Sathyaashivaa, the film is backed by the Chendur Film International banner.
Ahead of the release, speaking at a press meet, actor Sasikumar reveals that this is the first time he's trying a different character, a city-based sound engineer, breaking out of his stereotypical role, a countryside man.
"In most films, I play a rural man. But in Naan Mirugamaai Maara, my character has a distinct profession. This sound engineer character is a common man who is bound by family sentiments. The film unfolds with how a common man can turn violent and go to any extent to protect his family," he adds.
While the trailer gives a glimpse of a gritty, violent actioner, the actor notes that director Sathyaashivaa has entwined the family's emotions well. "Sathyaashivaa narrated this script to me during the lockdown. I liked how even in such a film filled with violence, he weaved the family aspect so well. For me, the most challenging part was the single-shot action sequence. I managed to pull off with the support of the director and the cordial team," he says.
Sasikumar also adds that he took inspiration from the film's sound engineer T Uday Kumar to play his character. According to him, the briefing for this role was a man, who doesn't talk much and is always serious. And since Uday Kumar is likewise, he tried to observe him and build up his character for the film.
"Since there are no songs in the film, the background score plays a vital role. Ghibran's music has enhanced the visual experience of Naan Mirugamaai Maara. Besides blood, rain is also an important element in the film," he adds.
It may be noted that the film also stars Vikranth and Haripriya in pivotal roles. The supporting cast includes Madhusudhana Rao, Appani Sarath, Super Good Kannan, KSG Venkatesh, and Thulasi.
Meanwhile, Sasikumar has a handful of projects including Kaari which is scheduled to release on November 25.
