The first part of director Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan opened to positive reviews and the film has made more than Rs 500 crore at the box office. It has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022, the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and the 15th-highest-grossing Indian film of all time.

Unsurprisingly, fans of the film and its stellar cast are awaiting the sequel to the film for which the shooting was completed even before the release of part 1. While an official announcement on the sequel's release date is yet to be announced, according to sources, we have learnt that the makers are planning on releasing the film in the month of April next year. The source adds that the team has zeroed in on April 14th and 28th, and they will announce the date in a month's time.

Ponniyin Selvan I starred Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Lal, Sarath Kumar and Ashwin Kakamanu, and the actors will be reprising their roles in the sequel.

The historical drama is based on the epic book of the same name, authored by Kalki. Both parts of Ponniyin Selvan are produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions and like the first film, the sequel will also release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

AR Rahman, Ravi Varman, Sreekar Prasad, Thota Tharrani and Brinda, who worked in the first film as the composer, cinematographer, editor, production designer and dance choreographer respectively, will do the same for the sequel too.
