It has been exactly a year since the release of Jai Bhim. The film, directed by TJ Gnanavel, is a legal drama based on real-life incidents. Starring Suriya as an advocate, the film won widespread critical acclaim and was recently picked for screening at this year's Indian Panorama of the International Film Festival of India. On the film's first anniversary, Gnanavel has confirmed that his next will also be with Suriya.

According to the director, they had finalised the new project even before the release of Jai Bhim. Suriya's 2D Entertainment, the production house that backed Jai Bhim, is producing the upcoming film as well. They are planning to begin shoot in March, 2023.

Suriya is currently working on a big-scale project with director Siva. Tentatively titled Suriya 42, the film has been planned to be released in ten languages. The actor also has Bala's Vanangaan and Vetrimaaran's Vaadivaasal in different stages of production. He will also be seen in a cameo role in the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, starring Akshay Kumar as the lead.

Director Gnanavel is also set to make his Hindi debut with  Dosa King, an epic crime thriller based on the life of Jeevajothi Santhakumar. Backed by Junglee Pictures, the film is inspired by her tribulations with a restaurant mogul who harassed her and murdered her husband, resulting in a conviction after a trial that waged on for eighteen years – P.Rajagopal v. State of Tamil Nadu.
