Guru Somasundaram, who was recently seen in the hit Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali, will next star in a period drama titled Yaathisai. Directed by Dharani Rasendran, the rest of the cast of Yaathisai includes Shakti Mithran, Seyon, Rajalakshmi, Subathra, M Chandrakumar, Samar and Maadathy-fame Semmalar Annam.

According to a statement released by the makers, Yaathisai is a periodical fiction based on the 7th-century Pandiyan prince Ranadheeran who ruled during a time when the Chola dynasty lost its power and its people were forced to live in the woods. The film will also focus on the revolt of Eyinars and Cholas against Pandiyas, and how the war disrupted the lives of Devaradiyars.

Produced by Venus Infotainment and Six Star Entertainment, Yaathisai's cinematography is handled by Akilesh Kathamuthu while Chakravarthy is in charge of music.

Meanwhile, Guru Somasundaram has films like Maamanithan, Haya, Cup, Charles Enterprises and Mohanlal's directorial debut, Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure, in different stages of production.
