Filmmaker Sudha Kongara bagged the National Award under the Best Screenplay Category for Soorarai Pottru, which turned out to be a top winner. Sudha shares screenplay credits with Shalini Usha Nair. Her Directorial also won the Best Film Award.

Besides, the film's lead actors, Suriya and Aparna Balamurali have brought laurels by winning the Best Actor and Actress Awards, respectively. Soorarai Pottru's composer GV Prakash was awarded for the Best Background Score.

Speaking about her achievement, Sudha says, "I am on top of the world now. I feel like I have flown the 1 Rs flight, I feel what Captain Gopinath would have felt when he introduced India's low-cost flights and I feel what Maara (Suriya) felt when he saw his mother (Oorvashi) descending from his flight for every first time."

Sudha further adds that Suriya and Aparna are well-deserving. She noted that they had given their 1000% efforts to make the film what it is today. "Initially, I had nothing with me to prove how this film would come up. Suriya and Aparna believed in me and the script," she says.

Meanwhile, Sudha is currently directing the Hindi adaptation of Soorarai Pottru, starring Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan. Noting that it is yet another fresh project, Sudha says, "It's a new language for me. And I am excited to take up the challenge. We have reworked the screenplay, and I am super happy to work on it."
