The recently released promo video for Ponniyin Selvan takes us behind the scenes into the making of the Ponni Nadhi song. The video shows us the filming of the song intercut with actor Karthi and dance choreographer Brinda talking about their experience working on the song.

The actor describes the song as “An introduction to Vanthiyathevan’s personality, its an introduction to the kingdom and how it is flourishing, ” the actor then talked about working and bonding with the horse, which is known by the name of Semban in the film. Dance master Brinda talked about how the horse obediently responded to commands, which evidently made things easier for the choreographer.

Karthi, who features heavily in the song, tells us that Ponni Nadhi covers Vanthiyathevan’s entire journey across the Cholan kingdom, as he rides his horse along the banks of the Kaveri river (known in ancient times as Ponni river)

Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam, has music composed by Oscar Winner AR Rahman. The film is an adaptation of the popular novel of the same name, written by Tamil writer Kalki in 1954. The star-studded cast of the film includes Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vikram Prabhu. The long-awaited film, which is the first of two parts, is scheduled to release on 30 September 2022.
