It was earlier announced that Vijay’s upcoming film Varisu has begun a new schedule of shooting at Visakhapatnam. This was announced at a time when the Telugu Film Producers Guild has decided to halt all Telugu film shootings from August 1.

Producer Dil Raju came under fire for resuming the shoot despite the producers guild's decision to halt all the Telugu film shootings. Following the outrage, the producer has released a statement providing clarification for his decision.

The producer stated how the bilingual film is originally a Tamil film, and not a straight Telugu film, which is the reason for the crew following through with the shooting plans despite other Telugu films halting production. Titled Varisu, the film is set to release as Vaarasudu in Telugu. Starring Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, Varisu is directed by Vamshi Paidipally while Dil Raju is producing it under his banner Sri Venkateswara Creations.

The film also stars Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Prabhu, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Khushbu, and Sangeetha Krish. This is director Vamshi’s second Tamil film after Thozha starring Karthi and Nagarjuna in the lead roles. Thaman, collaborating with Vijay for the first time, is composing six songs for the film. The streaming rights for the film are bought by Amazon Prime Video. Varisu is currently expected to release on Pongal 2023.
