Ashwin Kumar says that he 'was completely distorted by the love his fans showered' to justify controversial speech

Ashwin Kumar is in hot water after his speech at his film Enna Solla Pogirai's audio launch went viral. The actor said quite a few things that offended media people, fans of other artists as well as directors and scriptwriters in the industry. 

In an interview with DT Next, Ashwin Kumar tried to clarify the content of his speech and he tried to justify it by confessing that he was nervous. He said, "I was absolutely nervous as this is my first big event. I hadn’t prepared any speech and was completely distorted by the love my fans showered on me. I didn’t intend to disrespect any of the directors, who narrated stories to me. I never imagined that my speech would backfire this bad. I understand the emotions behind it. However, it was unintentional."

Hariharan, the director of Enna Solla Pogirai, had also said that shooting with Ashwin Kumar was like shooting with a superstar. This offended fans of Superstar Rajinikanth as well. Quite a few memes were shared on social networking sites and many also trolled Ashwin Kumar for the same.

About this, he said, "Hariharan too didn’t prepare his speech. We spoke like a group of friends. There can only be one Superstar and we all know who it is. I am not one." He then claimed that he was being targeted for turning down a few films and said, " I feel like I was being targeted and this issue is totally being blown out of proportion. I am being a victim of hate by a few people whose films I turned down. They need to understand that it wasn’t out of disrespect."  

Enna Solla Pogirai is a movie that depicts a love triangle and is touted to be a happy and light romantic film. The film is scheduled to release on December 24.
