Gautham Menon: Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu will be nothing like anything I've done so far
The first schedule of Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu was completed recently in Thiruchendur
During a candid, filter-free chat with us, filmmaker Gautham Menon responded to criticism stating that his films are getting repetitive. The filmmaker said that his upcoming Silambarasan TR-starrer Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu will answer the critics. "Ten years ago, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make something contrasting to my style. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is my answer to all those who complain that I stick to the same elements. It will be nothing like anything I've done so far."
He highlighted that ace filmmakers like Mani Ratnam and Steven Spielberg retain their trademark in all films they make regardless of the genre. "Kadal was a film that is out of Mani Ratnam's usual universe. But you can see his signature in the shot divisions and staging. I believe that it is a sign of a seasoned filmmaker," he said.
Gautham added that he is always on the lookout for interesting scripts that he can translate to the silver screen. "Collaborating with writer Jeyamohan for Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is quite an interesting experience. I am always on the hunt for intriguing stories. Whenever I spot a good writer I ask them to send me a draft of their script. I spend my non-shoot days reading these scripts and shortlisting them."
The first schedule of Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu was completed recently in Thiruchendur. The rural action drama is based on Jeyamohan's book, Agni Kunjondru Kanden and has music by AR Rahman. The film is produced by Vels Film International. The female lead is yet to be announced.
Gautham last made Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru starring Suriya and Prayaga Martin for the Netflix anthology Navarasa.
