On Monday, director Pa Ranjith unveiled the first look poster of Bayamariya Brammai. Speaking about the film, debut director Rahul Kabali says that Bayamariya Brammai will talk about why we admire certain people, even though their actions are not accepted by society.
When we asked him to elaborate, he said, "Your aggression is mostly pent up. For example, when your boss is giving you a hard time or a cop stops you when you are in a hurry. That is why we vicariously enjoy when some bad guy wreaks havoc on screen, in films like Joker and No Country For Old Men. Bayamariya Brammai tries to impart what I have understood of this psychology. So there are no white or black characters, only grey."
Rahul, who used to be a storyboard artist, reveals how he is an unconventional writer. "I think only in visuals, so my screenplay is generally written in points accompanied by a sketch of the scene. I feel it will be fresh and real since we don't give a neat and linear narration when we talk about our day to our friends," he notes.
Set in the '90s and early 2000s, the debut director says he has utilised an anamorphic lens to give the audience the sense and feel of the bygone decades. On how he managed to attain perfection in showing subtler aspects peculiar to that period, he says, "The majority members of the team are in their 30s and 40s, so it was our lived reality. So the chances of going wrong is small."
Wrapped with two schedules, Rahul says he wants to release his film in July among other big films. To the question regarding screen availability, he opines, "I believe in giving options to the people. There are entertaining films, films that make you think, and films that inspire you. Bayamariya Brammai is a film that makes you think, I hope I will make an inspiring film in the future," he signs off.
Bayamariya Brammai stars JD, Guru Somasundaram, John Vijay, Harish Uthaman, Vinoth Sagar, Vishwanth, Sai Priyanka Ruth, Divya Ganesh, and Harish. Cinematographers Nanda and V Praveen, music director K, editor Akhil Prakash, and art director Sathish are part of the crime thriller's technical crew. The film is backed by Jagadish and Rahul Kabali, under their banner 69 MM Films.
