Nayanthara's 75th film helmed by debutant Nilesh Krishnaa has been titled Annapoorani - The Goddess of Food. Along with the title announcement, the makers also released a glimpse of the film.
The video showcases an orthodox household holding their daily prayers. We see Nayanthara holding a book on Business logistics while reading the recipe for chicken kebab inside.
Explaining the inspiration behind this film, debut director Nilesh Krishnaa says, "When my friend and I went to eat together at a restaurant, I realised that there are very few films made based on food. This set of films has been less explored in Tamil cinema."
Nilesh says it was quite an obvious choice to choose the film's title when the genre and the lead actor were confirmed. "When we are making a film on food and Nayanthara plays the lead role, what better title can be named for this other than Annapoorani?" he says.
Delving into the storyline, the director says, "Nayanthara is from an orthodox family in Trichy's Srirangam. The film will showcase Nayanthara's character's journey as she chases her dream and strives hard amid all obstacles to make it come true. Nayanthara has done several genres in her career including horror, thriller, comedy and action. This is a proper feel-good film which will have the flavour akin to her character in Yaaradi Nee Mohini, which is a personal favourite."
Nilesh states that he took almost one and a half years to write this film which also includes the time taken for research. "When you look at Srirangam, you also explore the best foods in the area. While the film showcases and explores foods of all types and from different parts of the world, it also doesn't lose the essence of its roots and culture. We also looked at Chef Damu's book where he has compiled recipes from the Sangam era."
Annapoorani - The Goddess of Food has Chennai and Trichy as the backdrop and features a musical score by Thaman S.
Besides Nayanthara, the film also stars Jai who will be reuniting with Nayanthara after Raja Rani (2013). Sathyaraj, KS Ravikumar, Achyuth Kumar, Redin Kingsley, Kumari Sachu, Karthik Kumar, Renuka, Suresh Chakravarthy and Poornima Ravi are also part of the cast.
The film's cinematography will be handled by Sathyan Sooryan, Praveen Antony will be handling the editing. The film is backed by Zee Studios, Naad SStudios and Trident Arts.
