Senthil to play a village head in Bobby Simha-starrer Thadai Udai

We had earlier reported that veteran actor Senthil and his son Mani Prabhu were playing prominent roles in the upcoming Tamil film Thadai Udai starring actor Bobby Simha.

Talking about his film, debut director NS Rakesh, who has previously assisted filmmakers M Saravanan and Nalan Kumarasamy, says, “This film will cater to all centres and will be a commercial entertainer. Revolving around a thiruvizha (temple festival), the film is about how the protagonist tries to revive a village. While the film has a rural setting, it will also showcase how urban people look at the rural life.”

Rakesh shares that veteran comedian Senthil was roped into the film not just as a comedian but as a character with emotional heft. “I needed someone to play a village head and didn't want to cast actors who are typecast in such roles. Bobby suggested Senthil sir and we narrated the script to the veteran. Then, we saw his son, and we immediately knew he would fit the role of the village head's son. This is the first time they will be sharing the screen space,” he adds.

Rakesh wrote the script in 2021 and pitched it to Bobby, who not only agreed to be part of the film, but also doubled up as its producer. The filmmaker mentions that Bobby, who plays an entrepreneur in the film, was looking for rural-based roles, and things fell in place at the right time. 

The film, which is set in a fictional village, went on floors in May and is shot by Demel Xavier Edwards, with music by B Aathif. The second schedule is underway and is expected to be wrapped up in July. The team is looking for a September theatrical release.

Misha Narang plays the female lead as a psychiatrist, and other cast members include Rohini, Sarath Ravi and Deepak Paramesh. The film is produced by B Rajasekar and Reshmi Simha on behalf of Mudhra's Film Factory and Aarudhra Pictures.
